FAMILY INVOLVEMENT
Providing the Best Outcome for Residential
Treatment
By Jennifer Gill, MSW, LSW
We take family involvement seriously at Midwest Center for Youth and
Families. As parents and caregivers you are responsible for your
children’s physical safety and emotional well-being. While in our care,
we are also responsible for your child’s physical safety and emotional
well-being. There is no one right way to raise a child, but parents and
caregivers would agree on similar expectations for your child. It is
easy for parents to recognize when a child has a high fever; however, a
child’s mental health problem may be more difficult to identify. Our aim
at Midwest Center is to work together with families and schools to
return the child back to the community.
We have a reputation for successfully treating severely troubled
children overcome behavioral, emotional, mental or psychological issues
that have caused problems in family, school and community interactions.
Our families have the opportunity to learn the coping skills needed to
parent a child with special needs.
Deciding to enroll your child in a residential treatment program can be
unsettling. As a parent or caregiver, emotions can range from guilt,
relief, hope and sorrow. Although these are normal feelings, how you
handle these emotions can greatly increase how much your child will
benefit from treatment at Midwest Center for Youth and Families.
We want you to know that we understand the difficulty to place a child
in residential care. We also want you to know that we are ranked higher
than the Indiana state average for parent satisfaction, average length
of stay, child satisfaction and placing agency satisfaction. (hyperlink

and family to resolve difficult issues.
